Phanek

The Phanek is a traditional garment worn by women in Manipur, symbolizing cultural pride, identity, and heritage. It is a wraparound skirt, often handwoven using vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and locally sourced materials. Phaneks come in two main types: the Phanek Mayek Naibi, featuring horizontal stripes, and the Phanek Inaiphi, which is plain or decorated with subtle patterns. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Phanek holds deep cultural significance, representing femininity and the resilience of Manipuri women. It is often worn during festivals, ceremonies, and daily life, showcasing the craftsmanship and traditions of the region. The Phanek is more than just attire—it is a statement of cultural preservation and pride.
